How to write a song in 10 simple steps
1) Theme Choose a theme. List as many words or phrases that describes your
theme. Questions, settings, feelings.
2) Lyrics Select your favorite words/phrases from your list. Come up with as
many creative versions/synonyms as you can. This will guide your lyrics.
3) Structure Decide on the structure of your song verse, pre-chorus, chorus,
verse 2, pre-chorus, Chorus, bridge, chorus.
4) Chord Progression Choose a basic chord progression. This can be adjusted
later. Think of it as your song's canvas. verse C D F# Em Caddo Chorus C Em
Caddo D
5) Chorus Using your word list, come up with a chorus that tells the main
theme. This is where the title usually lives and where emotions are found.
6) Write your verses to help set the stage of the song. You can describe the
setting, background story, causes, situations, reasons, for your feelings etc.
7) Pre-Chorus (optional) Create your pre-chorus as a way to link the verse to
the chorus and introduce feelings. The melody and chords should also propel
energy into the chorus.
8) Bridge Create your bridge as a brand new idea in the song. It can be a
reflection on feelings, answers, the effect to the cause or additional feelings.
9) Melody it can happen before, during, or after. Using your chord progression
sing thru your lyrics freely. Try variations. Record everything.
10) Revise & Complete Once you have your finished rough draft, adjust lyrics
that seem out of place. Try different melodies with your finished project that
had become your art.

It's a start. After you've created some songs, you could load them into the DJ (Mixxx) software and then play them instead of sending out an audition CD. This way you "Zoom meet" face to face with a prospect while
affording you more security and control over your work. If you develop the skills of a DJ for when you don't have any gigs lined up to perform music, you could work as a DJ until some opportunities to perform are offered. Many musicians of renown started as radio station DJ's before they became celebrities. DJing got them exposure to the pubic. Willie Nelson worked as a DJ while writing songs and music. "Crazy" performed by Patsy Cline being a best known. The Big Bopper (Jiles "JP" Richardson) who died along with Buddy Holly & Richie Valens in a 1959 plane crash was a DJ before becoming a performing musician....best known for his hit "Chantilly Lace". Robert Weston Smith (Wolfman Jack) was a radio DJ and hosted TV shows like "Midnight Special". He was in numerous Movies and in TV shows too. His band had numerous recordings and some songs recorded by other artist. You could look these guys up in "wikipedia com" and see how they used their DJing to advance their musical career. As for myself, I see DJing as the pro-active salesmanship side to being a musician.
Q&A: Am I allowed to write new lyrics to a copyrighted song?
If the music is covered by copyright the answer is: not without the permission of the copyright holder, for commercial purposes (money involved) or public performance.
There COULD be an exception if the song itself is copyrighted, but the music was in the public domain (before the song’s lyrics were written). THEN it’s my opinion that if your new lyrics were completely different then I can see no way that it could be a copyright infringement.
An example of the preceding paragraph - if you write new lyrics to a song like "Free Bird" using its music where it's copyrighted (and there are many such songs) then it wouldn’t be a copyright infringement to write new lyrics - unless simple differences in melody were also used in the newly created song.

Passion, and Desire.. Aristotle
Human nature flows from three main sources: Desire, Emotion, and Knowledge.. Plato Aristotle's teacher.
